When English Turns Exciting: KARISMA Brings Global Vibes to the Madrasah

Banyuwangi, October 29, 2025 — MAN 4 Banyuwangi once again held its regular KARISMA (Kampung Inggris Madrasah) activity, which takes place every Wednesday. The program aims to foster students’ interest and habit of speaking foreign languages, especially English, and this week’s session was held in the school hall with great enthusiasm from the students.

What made this week’s KARISMA special was the presence of two guest speakers from Spain, Silvia Izquierdo Badiola and Javier De Udaeta Valenciano. Both guests are currently on vacation at Pulau Merah, Banyuwangi, and took the time to visit MAN 4 Banyuwangi to share their experiences and interact with students.

The excitement was evident as soon as the two guests entered the hall. Students were eager and enthusiastic — many of them rushed to ask questions and engage in discussions in English. The questions ranged from hobbies and education to personal motivation and life experiences.

In between conversations, Silvia and Javier also introduced a few simple Spanish words and phrases, which sparked even more curiosity and excitement among the students. The atmosphere turned lively and interactive, making the learning process both enjoyable and meaningful.

The activity concluded with a group photo session involving all students and teachers, capturing the spirit and joy of the day.

One of the English teachers at MAN 4 Banyuwangi, Anis Muyasaroh, M.Pd, emphasized the importance of creating real experiences for students to build their language confidence. “Learning a foreign language is not just about theory in class. By interacting directly with native speakers, students become more motivated and confident to use English in real-life situations,” she said.

Through programs like KARISMA, MAN 4 Banyuwangi continues its commitment to nurturing a generation of globally minded, linguistically confident, and internationally competitive students. (BK)
